My name is Clare Greaves. I am a fully qualified, state registered music therapist with the Health and Care Professions Council (registration number AS09526) and a member of the British Association for Music Therapy (BAMT).
Based in Clevedon, I offer music therapy sessions in a fully equipped music therapy room to individuals, families, groups, schools, and organisations. I am also able to deliver music therapy sessions at your school, organisation or home as well as online (if required).
Music therapy is the use of creative music making within a safe and therapeutic environment. Using a wide variety of instruments and voice, individuals are encouraged to explore these through improvised music making with the therapist. Through regular sessions, individual aims can be achieved including social, emotional, cognitive, physical, learning and communication needs.
Music therapists improvise music to help their clients achieve therapeutic goals through the development of the musical and therapeutic relationship. The role of the music therapist is not to teach clients how to play an instrument and therefore no previous knowledge/skill of playing an instrument is required.
Depending on the individual needs of the client, music therapists offer individual or group music therapy sessions. The work of a music therapist takes place not only in sessions but also around the sessions. in thinking about a client and their needs, music therapists will liaise with other professionals working with the client to provide a holistic joined up approach. This can include offering assessments attending meetings, weekly telephone calls with clients family or carers, providing joint sessions with other professionals such as speech and language therapists, writing reports.
